Ben Shapiro is Decidedly Wrong about the LGBT Flag
Right-wing activist and bleating goat Ben Shapiro talked about the LGBT flag that now hangs for Pride month at the White House, criticizing Joe Biden for authorizing this move days ago.
On his Twitter page, he made the assertion that no veteran has ever died or bled for this flag, and that no veteran has stood up for it.
I am going to give an example and beg to differ.
At Club Q, a gay club in Colorado, where a shooting occurred in 2022, an Army veteran was one of the people who took down the shooter, resulting in less casualties. This was not only an honorable act, but can be seen as an act that supports our flag directly.
This is not to discount all of the American citizens who bled for our LGBT flag throughout history. From the time of Stonewall and prior to it, brave American citizens have fought for the rights of the LGBT community, and have never failed to prevail in the face of history.
What people like Ben Shapiro don’t understand is that things are not so cut-and-dry. It’s easy to live in a small, confused and bigoted world perspective where everything revolves around you and your personal desires. It is much more challenging to see the world with a larger perspective. One that doesn’t always cater to your personal feelings.
And this is really about feelings, after all. Those why decry the LGBT community as “weak” are usually the ones with the weakest arguments and ideas.
The truth is, the LGBT community has stomped its ground in the United States and continues to progress forward with our desires to be included as full citizens of our country. These comments by the likes of Ben Shapiro simply put an emphasis on how foolish our opposition is.
We have all fought for our American and LGBT flags, just like any other flag that repisents Americans. In fact, each State has its own flag. Shall we discount those? Cities and communities have flags reprisenting important parts of what makes them proud. Are they not American? By the way, many groups, including veterans’ groups have their own flags. Do they not deserve to fly them?
We can remember that we are all one, and that these squabbles are beneath our intelligence.
