J. K. Rowling is Setting a Bad Example for Children: Here's Why
The author J. K. Rowling has been recognized by youth and adults across nations for her work writing “Harry Potter,” which became an avalanche of success for her in the past two decades. This work was powerful for a lot of people, and even resulted in a “Harry Potter World” in both Hollywood, CA and Orlando, FL.
With that said, this writer has benefited by accumulating over a billion dollars in personal funds that translates into a castle that she bought in Scotland. She has many other financial gains, however that is not the object of this piece.
The focus here is on morality.
J. K. Rowling has attacked the transgender community from a so-called “feminist” perspective that leaves transgender people out of the equation. She proudly calls herself a “TERF” (Transgender-Exclusive Radical Feminist) and “gender critical” (which is a softer term for being anti-transgender).
Those things might be what constitute Rowling’s beliefs, and we don’t know about experience. It is possible that there is a personal vendetta against transgender people involved in this. It is certainly not objective.
This argument over drag queen story hours at libraries, and more on a sinister level, where transgender women are allowed in society (bathrooms and locker rooms for example), brings about a framing of the question of who is threastening to our children, and who is not.
I came across a picture today (which I will not post in this article) that shows Ms. Rowling on a boat of some kind, holding an alcoholic drink in her hand and smoking either a cigar or a clove (or something else). She was gloating in the post about having anti-transgender legislation pass in the U. K. This messed with my brain. Isn’t she the person that parents have looked toward for many years to bring about the concepts of reading, innocent fantasy, and interpersonal understanding?
People attacked Rowling at first for Harry Potter. They said that she was going against Christian values by talking about “magic.” This is the exact position that she now puts other people firmly into in American and British society. And she happens to pat herself on the back for her “work.”
All this person has done is create a non-Harry Potter world in which children are under direct scrutiny for being who they are. Where trans women are directly criminalized for being who they are. Tell me how that is part of the “Wizarding World?” Why should we trust this woman? What has she actually ever contributed to society other than a mere fantasy? Tell me how that somehow makes her an informed consultant on society and the rights of groups of people.
It doesn’t. She is just another example of an elitist who has nothing to do with the vast amount of time afforded by being rich. That is not the psyche or the plight of everyday people, and we mustn’t get trapped by her desire for importance.
